This class will be taught by Kieran Sikdar and will include a summary of best practices, lessons learned, appropriate maintenance practices, incentives and policy mechanisms to enable communities to mitigate flooding and conserve water cost effectively while improving community quality of life.

This workshop will be taught by members of AFMA’s own Flood Warning Committee. This workshop has been designed to introduce those who are new to ALERT (Automated Local Evaluation in Real Time) systems and to inspire the more experienced ALERT program managers to get more out of their systems for increasingly effective floodplain management and emergency response. This class covers a broad range of ALERT flood warning topics from several perspectives, and will show how local, state and federal agencies are working together to build effective flood warning
capabilities in Arizona.

Flood insurance guidelines and floodplain management regulations can affect insurance ratings. This class will review the relationship between NFIP insurance and regulations when dealing with specific situations.

This class will review the most common types of noncompliance with floodplain management regulations, and suggest ways that communities can avoid noncompliance to begin with and effectively resolve problems when they arise.

The ASFPM Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) exam will be proctored. To take the exam, you must pre-register through ASFPM (see http://www.floods.org/pdf/certapp.pdf)

Join us at the 2015 Fall Arizona Floodplain Management Association Conference. This registration includes all sessions and meals on Thursday, Friday breakfast, and lunch for field trip attendees. Please register separately for the Thursday night dinner and the field trip so we can get an accurate count.

The Upper Gila Riparian Restoration Project is a proactive effort to re-establish native habitat for threatened and endangered species prior to colonization by the tamarisk leaf beetle. Re-establishing riparian obligate to xeric native plant species in the appropriate locations can help support a greater variety of faunal species, minimize erosion after the initial treatment, reduce wildfire risks, and re-establish ecosystem processes negated by tamarisk monocultures. The Gila watershed partnership will be removing tamarisk through multiple means. In addition, they will be planting indigenous species to act as seed stock.
