About this event

Municipal management of stormwater has evolved in an ad hoc manner in many localities. Initially stormwater quantity considerations for downstream infrastructure drove the discussion and policies. In the last decade active surface water quality regulation brought a new focus to municipalities via AZPDES MS4 regulation. While the stormwater quantity and quality considerations have co-existed for a decade that doesn’t necessarily mean they are optimized to work towards the greatest benefit that stormwater can provide.

In our arid landscapes embracing stormwater as a resource and not a nuisance is a somewhat recent development that is rapidly gaining momentum across the state. Water conservation, combatting heat island effects and aquifer recharge have all become drivers in the field.

In this presentation Matt Killeen, Environmental Coordinator for the City of Prescott, will detail the challenges and opportunities that the City of Prescott has faced in learning how to best utilize our stormwater to achieve multiple benefits without undermining any of our constituent obligations.
