About this event
The Technical Committee of the Arizona Floodplain Management Association is pleased to announce a Technical Field Trip to Buckeye FRS. The tour will be led by the Flood Control District of Maricopa County.
The Flood Control District is in the process of rehabilitating Buckeye Flood Retarding Structure No. 1. It is one of three structures north of Interstate 10 and south of the White Tank Mountains. The earth-filled dam detains floodwater and conveys it to the Hassyampa River. The structure is 7.1 miles in length and has a height of 26 feet, with a storage capacity of 6,345 acre-feet. Built in the 1970s, the dam rehabilitation will extend the life of the structure and ensure it continues to protect downstream property owners from flooding.
